Bailey (design, Parsons School of Design, New York City) has written entries to a catalog of notable frames on a wide selection of paintings, including medieval altarpieces and works by Renaissance, American, Impressionist, Pop, Japanese, and modern artists. The story behind each work's creation is given, with attention to the decorative function served by the frame. The book is beautifully illustrated with full-page color plates. Unfortunately, neither the locations of the paintings nor their dimensions are included. Annotation (c) Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
