About the Author
Margaret Wild is the author of more than 40 books for children, including Piglet and Mama. She was born in Eschew, a small town in South Africa, and currently resides in Sydney, Australia.

PreS–A lost piglet is looking for her mother. She encounters other barnyard animals who try to make her feel better by suggesting, in turn, that they cuddle, make daisy chains, play chase, roll in the mud, dance in the daffodils, and snooze in the sun. But piglet wants her own mother and cries out with a loud "Oiiiiiink!" Her mother answers her cry and together they have a cuddle, make daisy chains, etc. The text is reassuring and rhythmic, and children may identify with the fright of being lost and the joy of being found. [BKL F 1 05] and all those stories about fuming kids who hide from their caregivers, this gentle farmyard picture book is about that elemental scenario of the lost child who wants to be found. Baby Piglet is searching everywhere for her mama. The other mother animals are kind. Duck wants to hug Piglet, Dog wants Piglet to roll in the mud with the puppies, and so on. But Piglet wants Mama, who, it happens, is looking for her. After they find one another, they embrace. Then they roll in the mud, dance in the daffodils, and snooze in the sun like the other animal families. King's clear illustrations, in soft pinks, greens, and blues, get the messy action and pastoral bliss, and especially the feelings of loss, longing, and coming home. Hazel Rochman
