Sometimes satirical, sometimes wistful, always amusing and involving, Johnson's drawings, which he calls his "statements," have been reproduced as prized limited-edition prints as well as on posters, T-shirts, puzzles, and mugs.
Many of the pieces have outdoor themes--"Sunday Sailors," "Life's a Beach," "Opening Day"--illustrating how people enjoy, make use of, and sometimes abuse the natural world. Others celebrate the imagination: "Floating Fantasies," "Go Fly a Kite," "The Great Humpty Dumpty Disaster." Still others are based on puns: "Brush Fire," "Sub Contractors," "Training Bra." Johnson has also created memorable images for corporate clients including Hersheypark, Reese's, and the Pennsylvania Farm Show.
The captivating art book includes a glimpse into Bruce Johnson's studio. The artist describes in his own words how he works and where he gets his ideas, and presents sketches and behind-the-scenes anecdotes that illustrate his creative process.
