Low-keyed, informative, and enjoyable, most of these essays have been previously published in such magazines as Field & Stream , The American Hunter, and Outdoor Life. While most libraries will want two or three titles devoted to the species hunted in their own areas, this collection has the advantage of covering birds hunted all across the countrya boon to travelers. Major species typically have several essays touching subjects like history, varieties, conditions under which the birds are found, and first-person anecdotes. Less well-known game birds receive briefer treatment. Pleasant hunting fare whose special value lies in breadth.
