Born in Valdez, Alaska, in 1905, Lee Wulff graduated from Stanford University with a degree in civil engineering. Before becoming a freelance artist and writer and eventual producer of hunting and fishing films, Wulff studied art in Paris and was an ad agency art director in New York City. Initially used to promote his fishing camps in Newfoundland, his outdoor films were the first to be featured on national television, and he spent ten years as a producer for ABC's legendary series American Sportsman. He was also a prolific writer and wrote several books on fly fishing, including Salmon on a Fly, Trout on a Fly, and The Atlantic Salmon. A long-time advocate of fisheries conservation and environmental preservation, Wulff served as director of the Atlantic Salm.on Foundation. He died on April 28, 1991, at the age of 86, after suffering a heart attack while flying his beloved Piper Super Cub
