Synopsis

This lavishly illustrated volume from the author and photographer of San A Certain Style invites you to enjoy a detailed look inside thirty-one country homes in California. From a stylish Italianate palazzo in the Wine Country to a rustic weekend getaway overlooking the dramatic cliffs of Big Sur; from a spacious horse ranch near Santa Ynez to a spectacular Modernist house by the Russian River, California Country fully documents the state's eclectic and influential way of life in over 220 full-color photographs. The five chapters of the book are divided by The Coast, Lake Country, Wine Country, Hill Country, and Town & Country. The lively accompanying text by California writer and editor Diane Dorrans Saeks provides detailed descriptions of each house, creating a true sense of place - as though you were there, a special guest in each home. California Country offers rare glimpses into residences designed by such luminaries as Michael Taylor, John Lautner, Theadora Van Runkle, Cliff May, Gary Hutton, Stephen Brady, Ron Mann, G.R. Durenberger, and Jim Jennings. This exquisite book will serve as a source of inspiration and information for designers, architects, and anyone who appreciates gracious living.
