Reviews

Comprised primarily of striking color photographs, this volume includes freshwater and brackish water aquarium fish from all areas of the world. Photos show the fish in their natural habitats and against a plain background that highlights their distinctive characteristics. The book was written by fisheries biologists, and its strength lies in relating each fish to its place in the classification and to the area of the world from which it originates. Brief notes about care in the aquarium, tank temperature, pH, type of food, and ease of culture are included, but Dick Mills and Jerry Young's Aquarium Fish ( LJ 11/15/93) and Nick Dakin's The Macmillan Book of the Marine Aquarium ( LJ 8/93) provide much fuller detail on required aquarium conditions. A classification list, world distribution maps, and index by scientific name are provided. Recommended for libraries wishing to provide a comprehensive aquarium collection for experienced hobbyists.
