Luminescent skies, vast desert landscapes, ancient ruins - these are the sacred spaces that still exist in the periphery of our busy world. The authors of Beaches take a photographic pilgrimage to these sites in this breath-taking new collection. We are transported to the barren beauty of Richard Misrach's desert, the ineffable calm of Joel Meyerowitz's empty seascape, the twisted and searing reds of Eliot Porter's sandstone caves. Gideon Bosker and Lena Lencek have paired these images with poetry and brief musings on the history and nature of pilgrimage, and have provided a source list of far-flung outposts from which to start a pilgrimage of your own. With ninety full-colour photographs of the most beautiful, peaceful, evocative spots on earth, Pilgrimage offers a blissful haven for the world-weary soul - and is the perfect gift for the seeker in us all.
