This collection of 12 essays written by American and Cuban scholars provides a close and intriguing look at the prospects for improved relations between the two countries. Both U.S. and Cuban perspectives are presented on several crucial issues--national security, foreign policy (mainly in Africa and Latin America), economic relations, and international law. The essays are 20-30 pages in length and contain reference notes. While the topics have quite a specialized focus, the essays are written for a general academic audience. Dominguez has published widely in this area, and this is a good companion volume to his recent To Make a World Safe for Revolution: Cuba's Foreign Policy ( LJ 3/15/89). Recommended for most academic library collections and as a supplemental text for graduate-level courses in international relations and Latin American politics.
