Synopsis
The collective outgrowth of presentations at a September 1992 meeting titled "The Transition from Basalt to Metabasalt: Environments, Processes, and Petrogenesis," held in Davis, California under the auspices of IGCP Project 294, to discuss recent advances and to identify important areas for further research in the study of the low-grade metamorphism of predominantly mafic rocks. Many of the chapters represent first-generation attempts at quantifying the pressure-temperature-composition conditions and processes attending low-grade metamorphism.
