About the Author
Mary Johnston's best-known book, To Have and To Hold, was twice made into film. Two of her other more popular novels, The Long Roll and Cease Firing have been compared to Stephen Crane's Red Badge of Courage. Marjorie Spruill Wheeler is Associate Professor of History at the University of Southern Mississippi and author of New Women of the New South: The Leaders of the Woman Suffrage Movement in the Southern States.
