Synopsis
Presents a study, in research-based narrative form, of one middle school implementation of a new portfolio assessment plan in response to statewide policy changes in California. Highlights the interactions of state, district, and local forces as teachers work to implement a new plan that collects student work and evaluates it systematically, drawing parallels between this school's struggles with reform and those of other schools that will face reassessment of their own curricula.
