In Our Victory Over Death:Resurrection?, Father Boismard explores the various ideas about "life after death" that are found in the Old Testament and Intertestamental literature. He explains that, in addition to the idea of resurrection, generally regarded as "semitic," the idea of immortality of the soul is also found in those writings, its presence owing much to the influence of Greek philosophy on Jewish thinking. The ideas of resurrection and immortality of the soul are also found in the New Testament. Father Boismard explores St. Paul's belief of these two ideas. He explains how St. Paul, at different stages in his life, first held one idea and then the other. Father Boismard also suggests that in the Gospels, Jesus expresses belief in the immortality of the soul. He concludes with a brief survey of well-reported "near death" experiences that may shed light on the question of what happens after death. An intriguing look at a topic of interest to everyone, Our Victory Over Death: Resurrection? is clearly written in a language that speaks to us all.?The book is a beautiful meditation on the biblical, theological and philosophical traditions of reflection on the eschatological destiny of the human family. It will enlighten those who seek answers to questions on the resurrection of the dead, while reminding them that the how of the life in God and the risen Christ has not been revealed.?
