Synopsis
The legend of " The Desert Fox," German Field Marshal Erwin Rommel (1891-1944), was forged in the desert conflicts of World War II. It was here that Rommel ignored the orders of the German High Command when he launched the classic "Rommel's First Cyrenaican Campaign." Driving his exhausted Panzer forces with his indomitable will and charismatic leadership, Rommel swept through North Africa, where he brought the British Eight Army to the brink of defeat. Although ultimately curtailed by supply shortages and logistics problems, Rommel nearly conquered North Africa.
In this stirring account of Rommel's first campaign, Samuel W. Mitcham, Jr. takes the reader into his subject's mind set and viewpoints.

About the Author
Samuel W. Mitcham Jr., a former U.S. Army helicopter pilot and college professor, has written numerous books on World War II, including The German Defeat in the East (978-0-8117-3371-7) and German Order of Battle (Vol. 1: 978-0-8117-3416-5; Vol. 2: 978-0-8117-3437-0; Vol. 3: 978-0-8117-3438-7). He lives in Louisiana.
