The 1985 North American Print Conference explored the diversity of study of printed imagery, with two major themes: the alliance with popular culture and printmaking as a fine art. In these selected papers, the popular aspect is seen in Masonic symbolism, literary flowering, and book illustration, industrialization, and factory production of lithographic images; group movements and specific artists represent creation of the "fine print" and its audience.
