Grade 6 Up A gorgeous book that uses full-color photographs and diagrams to introduce readers to computers. The authors both have museum experience and present each chapter as if it were an exhibit in an exciting science museum. The text, which is straightforward and clearly written, is placed next to the photograph or diagram, and all of the illustrations support it. The large format permits the use of gigantic illustrations. The photograph of a computer circuit board is about half the size of the real thing, and the picture is so clear that one can read the identification numbers on the chips. The book provides an interesting history of the development of computers; an explanation of how computers and various computer peripherals, such as the disk drive, function and an introduction to programming in BASIC. There are also enlightening sections on computer software; computer use, including a fascinating diagram of an industrial robot; and a brief discussion of computer languages, including Logo. EFB
