Entries treat Aging and the brain, Brain scans, Circadian rhythm, Down syndrome, Friedreich's ataxia, Mapping the brain, Narcolepsy, Postconcussion syndrome, and Slow viruses of the brain, to name just a few topics. The introduction notes that almost every entry has been revised, many with extensive updates. Among the new entries are Ecstasy (MDMA), Mad cow disease, Multiple intelligences, Neurological manifestation of AIDS, Shaken baby syndrome, and entries for each of the four drugs approved to treat Alzheimer's disease. Students interested in the brain and brain disorders will find much of interest here--information on the causes, cures, key research, symptoms, treatments, and trends of each field of study.
