Brobeck's annotated bibliography of the U.S. consumer movement concentrates on the period 1960-89. Approximately 800 secondary sources are cited, about half being newspaper and magazine articles. The material is arranged under 15 broad headings, such as "General Works," "National Organizations," "Movement Relationships," and "Economic Impacts," with access to specific items facilitated by subject and author indexes. Occasionally, however, the organization frustrates the user. Why, for instance, is an article on coffee boycotts listed under "Movement Advocacy" but not "Economic Impacts" where it logically belongs? But such quibbles aside, the bibliography is a solid achievement that should prove useful to serious students of consumerism. Mainly for academic libraries.
