All the elements of a light Gothic are included in this novel. A young heiress, a dark mansion and a handsome lord of the manor should make a good read but don't be fooled. The novel has little to recommend it to fans of the genre, and it's an unfortunate choice for audio. A more dramatic reading could have compensated for the lack of character development, but the narration verges on monotone.
