About this title

Review

"This is a most important book about the environment. . . . The 'incident,' in Southwest Texas, was the observed killing of an eagle in flight (shot from a helicopter), the investigation and trial which Schueler covered for Audubon magazine. He pursued the story far beyond the conviction of four men, seeking to understand all sides of the predator problem. . . . A remarkable piece of reporting."—Publishers Weekly"Donald Schueler covered the trial of three men accused of shooting federally protected golden eagles from a helicopter. He found a much more complex and interesting story than he anticipated. . . . A fine job of ventilating the controversy."—The Journal of Arizona History"As involving as a novel, full of real characters, often funny, and never moralistic. . . . Entertains as it makes you think."—Gray's Sporting Journal
