His sweeping vision calls for reforming professional education, revitalizing relationships among colleagues and with clients, and redefining the design process itself. This call to arms, however, is sounded on a muted instrument. These erudite and elegantly argued essays may appeal to an academic audience but are not likely to galvanize an entire profession. Still, this is a timely and thought-provoking addition to professional and academic collections.
