About the Author

Ella P. Mitchell was visiting professor of homiletics at the Interdenominational Theological Center, Atlanta, Georgia, from 1988–2001. As editor of the original Those Preaching Women series, Dr. Mitchell has opened the pulpit to generations of women. Many of her own sermons, along with those of her husband, Dr. Henry H. Mitchell, appear in the book Fire in the Well (Judson Press, 2003). In 2005, Judson Press reprinted Together for Good: Lessons from Fifty-Five Years of Marriage, which chronicles the Mitchells’ extraordinary journey together. Valerie Bridgeman Davis, PhD, MDiv, is associate professor of Hebrew Bible and homiletics and worship at Memphis Theological Seminary. She founded and directs the seminary’s theology and arts institute. She is a performing artist and widely published poet. Rev. Dr. Davis is ordained by the Church of God (Anderson, IN).
