About the Author:
The late Ángel Luis Gutiérrez, grew up in the Baptist church and served it for more than 50 years, including having been executive minister of the Baptist Churches of Puerto Rico. Committed to the study of Baptist history, Gutiérrez attended a short course on the subject at Oxford University in England. A professor of Baptist history at the Evangelical Seminary of Puerto Rico, he was awarded an honorary doctorate from the institution.
Co-editor Miriam Z. Gutierrez is an ordained Baptist minister in Puerto Rico where she was married to the author for 46 years. She teaches Baptist courses at the Evangelical Seminary of Puerto Rico and has served in various capacities at the denominational level.
Co-editor Juan Ángel Luis Gutiérrez- Rodríguez inherited his father's love of Baptist history. He has written several articles on Baptist freedom and principles, and has contributed to this book his case study on the separation between church and state, an issue recently faced in Puerto Rico.
