Steve Parker is a Heinemann-Raintree author.
Grade 5-8. Two series entries with concise coverage and an engaging style. They are easy-to-read and will attract reluctant readers because of the short chapters, "Fact Boxes," and many colorful photographs and illustrations. The subjects are broken down into small sections, with lots of visual aids, keeping the books interesting and nonintimidating. Stomach covers the process of digestion, the organs involved, and nutrition. Brain examines the nervous system, the senses, emotions, and sleep and dreams. The treatments of these topics are very basic; malfunctions, syndromes, and diseases associated with these particular body systems are only briefly discussed. Students who have read Meredith Goldman and T. Lissauer's The Young Scientist Book of the Human Body (EDC, 1983; o.p.) and want to know more will find that these titles fit the bill.?Marilyn Fairbanks, East Junior High School, Brockton, MA
