Four hefty volumes contain the proceedings of the four specialty conferences which comprised the August 1996 conference the 13th such conference known by the acronym "ICPR," a biennial meeting of the International Association for Pattern Recognition. Selected from close to 1,000 submissions were 11 invited talks, 63 oral presentations in each specialty conference, and a total of 452 posters.
