About the Author:

Dr. Dale Walter Karolak is an engineering director at TRWAutomotive Electronics, where he is responsible for productdevelopment for domestic and international customers. His previouspositions include software and systems engineering manager at ITTAerospace/Communications, and software engineer at GTECommunications Systems R&D Laboratories. He is the creator ofthe Just-in-Time software developing methodology, holds a patent onthe Communications Management System Architecture, and has threepatents pending in software architecture and communication.
Dr. Karolak has headed virtual software development venturesworldwide, including the US, Europe, and the Middle East. Hisprojects typically involve domestic and international companies andproject teams of from 10 to 70 members. At present, he is assessinga joint US-European project to produce an automotivesafety-critical product, and is currently conducting a series ofjoint design reviews.
Dr. Karolak received a PhD in software engineering from UnionInstitute, and MBA from the University of Phoenix, and a BS incomputer science from Central Michigan University. He is the authorof the IEEE Computer Society's bestseller Software Engineering RiskManagement and developer of SERIM, the product that evolved fromthe book. Dr. Karolak is a frequent speaker at internationalconferences and has published widely in software management,metrics, reliability, quality, testing, and architecture. He is amember of the IEEE, IEEE Computer Society, ACM, and Society ofAutomotive Engineers.
