The purpose of this study is to suggest a way to critically evaluate approaches to social change and the ethical systems of which they form a part. The author establishes the notion of sociality as an adequate basis for an ethical system, and uses it as a criterion to evaluate contrasting interpretations of sociality basic to two different ethics: that of Reinhold Niebuhr and Rosemary Radford Reuther.
