It familiarizes the English-language reader with an otherwise linguistically inaccessible tale body while pleasing a German speaker as well, as Sparing thoughtfully provides original texts in footnotes for every translation. Sparing must be commended for searching for meaning in one of the many uninterpreted bodies of folklore data.
