HARRY C. RUTLEDGE, who passed away in 2006, was a revered professor in the classics department at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, where he taught from 1968-1996. His long record of academic service included terms as president of the Vergilian Society of America, the Classical Association of the Middle West and South, and the Southern Comparative Literature Association.
The Guernica Bull is a valuable work for its detailed and thorough documentation of classical elements in several works of the twentieth century.
(Patricia J. Johnson Classical and Modern Literature: A Quarterly)The Guernica Bull provides an excellent introduction to works which haven't yet received their due critical attention.
