Andy Warhol's affinity for glamour and style and the fashion industry's infatuation with him are undisputed facts of pop art and pop culture history. The obviousness of the connection makes the failings of this exhibition catalog all the more surprising. The problme is that for all the research that clearly went into packing these pages with thousands of archival items?from commercial artwork of the 1950s to Warhol's personal collection of Hollywood 8"x10" lossies to Interview magazine covers?there seems to be little motivation beyond documenting the obvious. Compiled by the staff of the Andy Warhol Museum, who also put together the show which will travel from its current New York City venue to Toronto, Pittsburgh and three overseas locations, the book's lack of a compelling thesis reduces its purpose to little more than a portable archive of fashion-related Warholiana.
