Synopsis

Poor Uncle Horace. He had been found on the floor of his library at Twin Hollows, dead of chronic heart trouble. Such a harmless, eccentric old scholar. And if, as local gossip would have it, the ghost of Uncle Horace had a few nervous habits - such as turning on the red lamp when no one was looking or putting in a shadowy appearance in photographs - well, it was nothing William Porter, Professor of Literature, wasn't prepared to tolerate for the sake of a quiet place to spend the summer...
The ghost, it would seem, thought otherwise. And when, night after night, local sheep were mysteriously slaughtered, Porter was forced to apply his intellect to a case harder to crack than Milton, Dryden, or Pope. Either Uncle Horace had developed a bizarre taste for lamb chops... or someone was manipulating appearances with a deadly purpose. It was up to the Professor to read between the lines - before murder had the last word!
