After Nina Trenton's husband dies suddenly from a heart attack and she is prevented from seeing his body, her investigation of his death uncovers a deadly experiment taking place behind the doors of the Extended Care Research Institute

From Publishers Weekly:
As this predictable medical thriller unfolds, we learn that an unscrupulous doctor in Wisconsin needs a steady supply of corpses to ensure an adequate supply of his cure for Alzheimer's disease. Like Dr. Dundeen and Morton the mortician, who supplies the bodies, Nina Trenton's father has an early-onset version of the disease. Nina has more bad luck when her husband ostensibly drops dead while jogging. Nina suspects foul play, as does friendly reporter Bruce Fitzgerald, but in the end, Nina and her infant daughter are left alone to confront the murderous doctor. Zimmerman manages to weave both Down's syndrome and voodoo into the denouement, but these twists are absurd, and like the yarn itself, distasteful.

Book Description Soft cover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. First Zebra Books printing August 1990. (ISBN 0-8217-3099-1)Mass market paperback. Near fine tight copy, unread, near fine glossy wrappers, faint wrinkle at bottom bottom edge of back wrapper. In the tradition of Ronin Cook. "Slices through the reader's peace of mind as keenly as a surgeon's scalpel diabolically suspenseful." Alfred Hitchcock Mystery Magazine. It seemed like a plague: suddenly people in Mendota, Wisconsin, young men and women, were dying of heart attacks. And no one was taking notice of the fact that they were all being cremated at the same mortuary. It was in front of that building that Alex Trenton was declared dead.and where his young widow's nightmare began. One man knew why: Nina didn't know why they wouldn't let her see her husband's body. The doctor had lots of reasonable excuses. And since he was the same doctor taking care of her father, she believed him. Until a young investigative reporter began pointing certain things out to her. and Nina realized something deadly was going on behind the closed doors of the Extended Care Research Institute. Instead of receiving care, the patients had become experiments. Then, when their bodies couldn't give any more, the doctor turned to a new source.and in the labs beneath the hospital, Nina uncovered the frightening secret of the "Mindscream." "Fast-paced, suspenseful, gripping, and with more going for it than the standard Robin Cook formula." Roanoke Times. Suspense. Seller Inventory # imndir2"8
