Operads are mathematical devices that model many sorts of algebras, including associative, commutative, Lie, Poisson, alternative, and Leibniz. The notion appeared in the 1970s, and the recent renaissance of interest in it is due to the discovery of relationships with graph cohomology. The 18 papers, from two conferences, discuss the pre-history of operads, relating the associahedron and the permutohedron, coproduct and cogroups in the category of graded dual Leibniz algebras, operadic tensor products and smash products, non-commutative reciprocity laws associated to finite groups, and other topics. One paper is in French. Member prices are $51 for individuals and $68 for institutions. Annotation c. by Book News, Inc., Portland, Or.
