The conference was called to summarize and consolidate the work of Piatetski-Shapiro (d. 2009) and his co-workers on the theory of automorphic forms, and to promote future work by identifying fruitful directions of further investigation. The overall themes--reflecting his interests--are functoriality and converse theorems, local and global L-functions and their periods, p-adic L-functions and arithmetic geometry, complex geometry, and analytic number theory. The 18 papers consider such topics as harmonic analysis on symmetric spaces as complex analysis, Hecke fields of Hilbert modular analytic families, a new functional equation for local integrals, the stability of root numbers, and automorphic descent as an outgrowth of Piatetski-Shapiro's vision.
