Synopsis

William Blackburn's newest anthology brings together some of the best sketches, stories and poems written by Duke undergraduates and professional writers during the past ten years or so. This volume is one of three - a sequel to One and Twenty (1945) and Under Twenty-Five (1963). Like these earlier collections - indeed like the first collection of Duke verse, The Archive Anthology edited by R. P. Harriss in 1926 - this book is intended as a record of achievement as well as an evidence of continuing literary tradition at he University. The volume contains the work of such distinguished Duke graduates as Reynolds Price, Anne Tyler, Fred Chappell, and the late Mac Hyman, and others, as well as the writings of more recent graduates. About two-thirds of the volume is made up of undergraduate material, chosen for its keen awareness of contemporary life and its sureness of workmanship.
