Gr 1-3 Children love riddles, and librarians are always on the look out for good holiday books to fill those inevitable seasonal requests, so this amusing book is a welcome find. This book is a combination of new and well-worn riddles, some of them real groaners: ``What's purple and covered with feathers? A turkey holding its breath.'' ``If April showers bring May flowers, what do May flowers bring? Pilgrims.'' Adler uses the same format as in The Carsick Zebra (Holiday, 1983): one riddle per page, with a large black-and-white cartoon in which the characters sometimes spout dialogue to supplement the joke. Plenty of white space, and bold, clear print make this easy to read. Young riddlers will give thanks for this collection. Annette Curtis Klause, Montgomery County Libraries, Md.
