Reviews

Grade 1-4 A guaranteed source of giggles and groans. Dinosaurs are so old that it seems like jokes about them might also be antiquated and stale. Not so, with Adler's collection of fresh, new prehistoric humor. Like Noelle Sterne's Tyrannosaurus Wrecks (Harper, 1979), some of the riddles play with dinosaur names (``What does a Triceratops sit on? His tricera-bottom''). Others are punny, silly (``How did cavemen and women discover the sun? It just dawned on them''), and of course, juvenile (``What would you find in a dinosaur's ear? Tyrannosaurus wax''). The easy-reader format will make this a popular source of silliness for young readers who like to tell riddles out loud. While the illustrations are nothing special (generally unshaded line drawings give the appearance of a coloring book), the humor is definitely a cut above average and definitely better than The Funniest Dinosaur Book Ever (Sterling, 1987) by Joseph Rosenbloom.
