9780823418442: How to Trick or Treat in Outer Space

Halloween is not just for earthlings! In the far reaches of the universe, it's the biggest night of the year. Ride along with Da Moon and his brothers in their UFO and check it out. The tricks are awesome and the treats are simply out of this world! Kathleen Krull and Paul Brewer have gone cosmic in this goofy guide to some of the galaxy's lesser-known customs.

Paul Brewer, which Kirkus Reviews said "Readers hoping to brush up on hair basics will find no better starting place." School Library Journal praised his art for its "great wit and a wild palette of colours."

From School Library Journal:

PreSchool-Grade 2–This ill-conceived picture book zips all over the galaxy but ultimately goes nowhere. A young alien named Da Moon embarks on his first interplanetary trick-or-treat outing with two older brothers. They visit a handful of made-up planets before working their way toward Earth, discovering a different Halloween gimmick at every stop. The sight gags devised for both real and imagined locations are either not funny, completely arbitrary, or both. For example, the inhabitants of planet Suzy all look like someone named Suzy. In a nod to the enduring popularity of potty humor, the ship doesn't stop at Uranus because there are "never any treats there! It gets TP'd every year!" The cartoon artwork is colorful, but does not add much to the story. For example, when the text mentions "Goofy tricks on Pluto," the illustration shows reptilian creatures leering at Da Moon's passing space ship but performing no goofy tricks. Sometimes nonsense is irreverent and whimsical; other times, nonsense is just nonsense. This is one of those other times.–Catherine Threadgill, Charleston County Public Library, SC
