Reviews

Grade 7 Up-Longer on description than on prescription, this title concentrates on recognizing and defining behavioral disorders. Webb gives examples of compulsive tendencies and discusses who is likely to exhibit them and how, and offers suggestions for getting help. Super student, time consciousness, shopping, sex, and other compulsive behaviors are described in the many case-study narratives. The assertion is made that there is a distinction between addictive and compulsive behaviors, but the differences remain unclear. Eating and gambling are but two disorders that are discussed and labeled as addictions in other sources. While some of the problems introduced have whole titles devoted specifically to them (even within this series), there are behaviors presented here that are not usually covered except in very general works. This volume will be helpful in recognizing them as well as providing information for reports.
