Gr 6-9--A book that addresses organizing various aspects of one's life: in school, at home, and in the work environment. Chapters are extremely brief, type is large and double-spaced, and points are illustrated by fictional young people who face organizational dilemmas, making the book unintimidating. However, it has several faults that impair its effectiveness. The photographs are not attractive or helpful. One shows a young woman sitting at a microfilm reader in a library, although the chapter speaks extensively of computers. Another depicts a student shopping for an organizer in what appears to be a card shop or variety store; there are no visual clues as to where a person might actually purchase such an aid. The text also suffers from organizational flaws. A section entitled "Making Reports" covers writing a report and making a speech. Later in the book, "Reports and Speeches" advises readers to use short paragraphs and leave lots of white space on the page while saying little about public speaking. Of the three chapters dealing with jobs, the one on finding a job is last, and the sample resume that is included is poorly arranged and unattractive. Finally, study tips such as highlighting notes, making a timeline, or using outlines are uninspired and uninspiring.
