Gr 5-10-Two books with titles that promise a lot. Getting a Job comes closer to actually delivering on its promise. It's a practical overview of the process of looking for work, especially geared toward those teens seeking their first real job. Tips on choosing the right type of work are followed by advice on where to look, how to contact employers, write a r sum and cover letter, fill out an application, and respond successfully in an interview. A chapter is devoted to teens with disabilities. The writing is clear and sparked by examples and "real-life stories." Stuart Schwartz and Craig Conley's "Looking at Work" series (Capstone) provides greater depth on the various aspects of the job search. Eating Smart is more like a speedboat that barely touches the waves as it zips across Lake Nutrition. Useful as a starting point, its brief chapters cannot do justice to topics like eating disorders, vegetarianism, the food pyramid, healthy lifestyle, or dieting. The market is currently glutted with books on nutrition for young people, so there's no need to settle for this "lite" fare. Dale Figtree's Eat Smart: A Guide to Good Health for Kids (New Win, 1992) is a more substantial choice.
