"In November of 1971, while at the University of Wyoming, I undertook the task of writing a manual of vascular plants for Wyoming on a part-time basis. Since the project would have to be completed in less than 3 years, a number of short-cuts had to be introduced. These include brief descriptions; distributions given for Wyoming only and in broad categories; limited synonomy; and exclusion of (1) all infraspecific taxa, (2) species to be expected in the state but not yet found, (3) some annual grain field weeds, and (4) species growing only under irrigation including lawn weeds . Since the primary purpose of the manual is for identification of vascular plants, the taxa are arranged alphabetically within the three major groups of Pteridophytes, Gymnosperms, and Angiosperms. Relationships can be shown in only a general way using a linear sequence. One of the more recent systems of classification [Cronquist] is used in the summary for those interested in family relationships as far as the present state of our knowledge is concerned." [Introduction] Volume I covers Equisetaceae to Grossulariaceae; Volume II covers Haloragaceae to Zygophyllaceae. The two volumes contain 1498 (+ vi [V. I]+ iv [V. II] unnumbered) pages, with illustrations, Appendix[es], Glossary, Index, and Additions. Boards are clean and sound; text is strong and clean, though freckled in four spots on the front text edge (V.
