Synopsis
Excerpt from Preface: The field of botany contains a vast number of technical terms and proper names, many of which are non included in the best standard reference works. The student or even the trained botanist will sometimes find it difficult to locate definitions for such terms as "greffe des charlatans" or "Hoogeveld." At the same time, depending on the references used, several definitions could be found for such words as "cognole" or "meroplankton." Problems of this nature are a constant source of confusion and frustration to the botanist. The dictionary contains nearly 24,000 entries, compiled from more than 170 sources. In many instances different sources offer varying definitions of a single term. For some terms it was appropriate to include several definition; for others, a choice was made which I believe will prove acceptable to most botanists.
