"Leland Rice, a well-known photographer from the Bay Area, began photographing the West German side of the Berlin Wall in 1983. Calling himself a "visual archeologist," Rice focused in on the brightly colored pictographic art, graffiti, symbols, poetry, slogans, and familiar expletives that covered the surface of the Wall. The imagery is laden with social, political, and cultural history. Now, of course, the Wall is gone, and these images serve as documentary records of a fascinating visual language that addressed the tensions between East and West, and that reflected the hopes and outrage of people living in one very important place at one particular moment in history. 38 full page, full color photographic illustrations (all full or double page) with accompanying descriptive captions. 141 pages. Some play in front cover due to cracking of interior endpaper at spine (but holding fast) elsewise a bright, clean, tight, collector-worthy copy sans additional rips/tears, stains, markings, discoloration, etc. *NOTE: Due to size/weight of book additional shipping will be required for out-of-U.S. shipment in accordance with destination. Edges are creased and nicked, including small tears. Small blemish to the page block foot, with some foxing on the head. A little surface colour loss on the pastedowns and endapapers.
