9780826454980: Teaching Assistant's Handbook

Synopsis

The teacher's assistant's role is important, and more is being expected of the people who do the job. Yet advice and support can be hard to find. This book aims to be an accessible, practical and constructive one-stop resource, with a large format text design and frequent use of boxed material. It covers each module of the CACHE STA award, and can be used as a textbook for all students enrolling on this course. It is also written to support assistants not on the course, either existing assistants in posts (many of whom have no qualifications) or voluntary help. Each chapter includes case studies, self-assessment exercises, suggestions for taking issues further, references and sources of further information.

Review

" The Teaching Assistant's Handbook is welll structured and clearly laid out. It covers the essential elements of the new roles that teaching assistants occupy, including supporting the c ore curriculum elements of a primary school, assessment and recording, child protection and special needs of children in areas of learning and behaviour." "This book is easy to read and can form a core text for a number of development courses for teaching assistants , but it can also be a reference point and is likely to be a well thumbed book in a school staff-room." " This book is likely to be a valued read for new staff and a sound reference point for more experienced practitioners. I would like to see this added to every bookshelf alongside other volumes for teaching assistants." (Dr Christopher Arnold-nasen, My 2006)
