Organized chronologically, "A Jazz Odyssey takes readers through the development of jazz over the course of the late 20th century as seen by one of the jazz world's most celebrated figures. Peterson describes his whole colorful and eventful life, from playing with the Johnny Holmes Orchestra in Montreal in the 1940s, through his famous concerts in New York (Jazz at the Philharmonic), the formation of the Oscar Peterson Trio, to his recovery from a stroke in the mid '90s. He writes candidly about his personal life, giving readers a rare look at the private life of the jazz star. In 1997 Oscar Peterson received a Grammy for Lifetime Achievement and an International Jazz Hall of Feme Award.

Jazz pianist Oscar Peterson is, in the words of Quincy Jones, 'one of the greatest musicians on the planet.' Richard Palmer is a lifelong jazz fan and has been a staff writer for Jazz Journal since the late 1970s.
'The pianist Oscar Peterson has amassed a reputation as one of Jazz's virtuosos. Reading on, especially for jazz fans, yields rewards.' NEW YORK TIMES '...among the most vivid and tender jazz recollections currently in print. As a source of musical insight, intimate anecdotes, personal portraits of bandmates and impresarios, and simply as a highly readable account of just what makes a jazz musician tick, A Jazz Odyssey is worth seeking out' JAZZ REVIEW 'The title of this autobiography says it all: the life of renowned jazz pianist Peterson...has truly been an odyssey. The narrative as a whole flows nicely. Recommended wherever patrons are interested in jazz.' LIBRARY JOURNAL 'I can think of no other jazz autobiography that has made the mysteries of music-making so readily accessible to the lay reader....A memorable contribution to the literature of jazz, and one can only hope that other musicians interested in telling their stories... will take it as a model.' COMMENTARY '[A] delightful autobiography, which has been 15 years in the making. It's a fascinating read that chronicles an extraordinary life. Rich in anecdotes that jazz lovers will lap up, and full of engrossing insights into the mechanics of performance.' YORKSHIRE POST
