An in-depth look at this popular American art form contains background information on the history of quilting, patterns that are popular in different regions of the country, and other information.

This volume takes readers on a tour of the United States, exploring the quilt designs of each region. The Nine-Patch of the Northeast, the Pennsylvania-Dutch Diamond-in-the-Square, and the Ohio Rose are just a few of the motifs portrayed.
In the last 20 years there has been a quilting revival in America, spawning examination of our quilting heritage. Zegart, herself involved in this revival, adds to the growing number of regional studies by summarizing the differences in regional patterns and textiles. The writing in this good first effort is concise and interesting, and beautiful photos adorn every page. Unfortunately, the photos are poorly labeled and do not coordinate with the text. Another drawback is the lack of an index. Cheerful, colorful, and inexpensive, this is recommended as a good supplement to public library collections. If your library owns regional or state quilt histories, however, this book is not necessary.
