Synopsis

We are citizens. Not of this world, but of a kingdom different from this world. A kingdom that causes us to see things through a whole new lens. So if we, the Church, are living out this kingdom, then why do the world s culture and the Church’s culture look so similar? In this 5-week series, Stanley Hauerwas invites us to join a conversation--evaluating our role in culture and in our current church environment. Sunday Asylum will not only help you explore what it looks to be citizens of the kingdom, but will encourage you to reassess your own beliefs and motives.Includes:5 video Sessions with Stanley Hauerwas In-depth discussion questions to help you explore each topicCommentary by Jason BarnhartWeek 1: Believe vs. Make BelieveWeek 2: Conflict vs. ComfortWeek 3: Despair vs. HopeWeek 4: Contemporary Worship vs. WorshipWeek 5: The System vs. the Kingdom

About the Author

Stanley Hauerwas is the Gilbert T. Rowe Professor of Theological Ethics at the
Divinity School of Duke University. Though he is often identified as an
ethicist, his work is more properly
described as theology. Certainly his work involves questions many associate with
ethics, but his primary intent is to show in what way
theological convictions make no sense unless they are actually embodied in our lives. His work draws on a great range of literatures--from classical, philosophical, and theological texts to contemporary political theory. He also works in medical ethics, issues of war and peace, and the care of the mentally handicapped. His most recent book is Hannah s Child: A Theologian s Memoir (Eerdmans). Aaron Edwards founded Sondays Church in 2005, a coffee shop community for wayward souls. As a writer, his passion is to create as an expression of what he sees happening within his community and how that relates to the healing of the world.
