Reviews

Symbolism, Grasse claims, is "the forgotten language." He does not mean only literary symbolism but also what Baudelaire called life's "correspondences" --the sense that everything means something, that all of life is a dream and can be interpreted as such. Drawing from mystical traditions and quantum physics, from astrology and Jungian psychology, Grasse offers us a virtual dictionary of symbolisms and the finding that contemporary culture is almost unique in its disregard for symbolist ways of thinking. His well-presented argument should open eyes and, perhaps, minds. Patricia Monaghan

Hardcover. INSCRIBED AND SIGNED BY THE AUTHOR. First Edition (1996); First Printing indicated by a complete numerical sequence. Very Good+ in Near Fine DJ: Book shows indications of very careful use: shows the slightest spine lean; minimal shelving wear along the bottom edge of the black, quarter-cloth boards; a hint of smudging and soiling to the outside edges; the binding is secure; the text is clean. Overall, remains clean, sturdy, and quite presentable. Free of creased or dog-eared pages in the text. Free of underlining, hi-lighting, notations, or marginalia. Free of creases to the covers. Free of any ownership names, dates, addresses, notations, inscriptions, stamps, plates, or labels. A handsome copy, structurally sound and tightly bound, showing only minor, unobtrusive flaws. Remains close to 'As New'. The DJ shows only the mildest rubbing to the panels; the price is intact. Very close to "As New". NOT a Remainder, Book-Club, or Ex-Library. 8vo.
