Synopsis
A best-seller for more than a decade! This classic devotional and prayer book includes thematically arranged material for each week of the year as well as themes and schedules for 12 personal retreats. The authors have adopted the following daily format for this prayer book: daily invocations, readings, scripture, reflection, prayers, weekly hymns, benedictions, and printed psalms. The deluxe gift edition features Bible binding, a ribbon bookmark, and gold-edged pages.
1. The original resource, created for persons in professional ministry wanting to keep their relationship with God alive and vital.
2. Uses the Common Lectionary deviating from the ecumenical lectionary themes. The authors deviated from the ecumenical lectionary themes only when they felt other themes might be more helpful.
3. Daily arrangement is as follows: Invocation, Psalm, Daily Scripture Reading, Readings for Reflection, Prayers (for church, others, self), Reflection (silent and written), Hymn (for the week), and Benediction. The back of the book contains12 monthly retreat models for a 1-day retreat. [NOTE that the same invocation, psalm, hymn, and benediction is repeated each day for a week.]
4. The “Readings for Reflection” reach back to early Christian classics and include voices from contemporary spiritual writing.

About the Author
Rueben P. Job is a retired United Methodist bishop with a lifelong interest in the spiritual life. He is the author or coauthor of numerous articles and six books.
Norman Shawchuck has served as pastor, professor, business president, spiritual director and author of numerous books and professional articles.
